NL South Draft Review S13

NL SOUTH

Mexico City Dapper Sombrero Gents

Overall Review: B Kincade is a great hitter and should anchor the Mexico City lineup for years. Trevino and campos would be great as a tandem and both should see ML time.

SUMMARY

1

11

---

Sven Kinkade

2B

18

HS

---

4.1

All-star quality hitter who many shied away from because of his poor base running. It is hard to overlook his awesome power and solid bat. Should be a career .300 hitter with 59 bomb potential.

2

63

---

Esmailyn Trevino

3B

20

JC

---

3.4

Left handed end of a platoon. He struggles against the right handers, but his solid stick and plus speed will allow his around 350 to 400 abs a season for the team. Probably not going to see much time at 2b might be better at LF.

3

96

---

Al Campos

1B

22

COL

---

3.2

The other half of the Trevino platoon same guy but with no speed and a weaker glove.

3

118

---

Greg Henry

2B

20

JC

---

2.85

Below average offensively, but solid in the field he is probably going to top out in AAA before retiring

4

129

---

Don File

2B

22

COL

---

2.6

Poor bat and base running neutralize his plus speed. Not much else to write home about here

5

161

---

Lynn Howard

CF

22

COL

---

2.8

Great speed and solid power give this guy the illusion of major league skill. His poor splits and weak makeup show otherwise. Even at 22 and as developed as he is. He is not going to go very far

Richmond Revolution
Overall Review: B+ shored up the farm arms with a few great pickups here. All should provide ML support in the future.

Efrain Borland

SP

22

COL

MILB

4.5

3 all star pitch and 2 other plus pitches. His below average control allowed him to slip to Richmond, but he should surprise a few with his great splits and velocity e is quite polished but still needs to work on his control in the minors to be ML ready

2

73

$550K

Jonathan Merrick

RP

19

JC

MILB

3.6

Solid long reliever who should give a ML team quality innings with his 3 plus pitches.

3

105

---

Brian Osik

RP

Great velocity and solid overall pitching attributes would give Osik a shot to make the majors

4

$350K

Wes Loiselle

LF

19

JC

MILB

3.1

Poor batting eye mar an otherwise above average hitter with great batting splits

HS

MILB

3.4

Great value in the 5th round. Solid reliever with good splits and 2 pitches

Florida Sting Ray
Overall Review: B good pick in Burns is he is managed carefully. He has the potential to be great, but also the potential to never develop. like most of the picks in Florida's haul they all will need good coaching and a great training staff

SUMMARY

1

12

$2,970K

Ron Burns

CF

19

JC

MILB

4.45

Best CF in the draft. Ron is a true 5 tool prospect. Good speed power and the ability to field his position. He does have a bit of trouble with the right handers. A poor work ethic might also stunt his growth

1

35

$920K

Gregory Price

1B

18

HS

MILB

3.2

Solid ml hitter with good speed, but his poor base running limits his speed potential. Probably a mixed bag in the majors.

1

44

$600K

Stuffy Leonard

RF

18

HS

MILB

2.99

Good runner with limited plate presence, his limited defensive options might doom him to a short ML career

2

64

$550K

Pascual Alomar

P

18

HS

MILB

3.4

Solid 2nd round pickup with 4 quality pitches and good control. He has poor durability even for a starter. He also struggles against left handers

3

86

$425K

Peter Miles

CF

18

HS

MILB

3.3

No power speedster. He is solid in the field and bunts with the best of them. His poor makeup will limit any future that is being projected

3

97

---

Jose Nunez

P

18

HS

---

3.2

Solid splits and a few good pitches thrown in make up for his below average control

4

130

$350K

Freddie Barrett

SS

18

HS

MILB

2.76

Good speed, but a poor hitter and a poor option at SS might be able to play in the outfield

5

162

$250K

Stubby Coleman

RP

19

JC

MILB

2.88

Solid base reliever with below average splits

Santa Fe Blaze

Overall Review: B Picked up a pair of ML quality pitchers for a team that needs to sure up a poor farm system. They also picked up a number of later gems with ML potential. All and all their pitching staff will be stronger for the future.

SUMMARY

1

21

$2,130K

Calvin Lucas

P

21

COL

MILB

3.9

Solid Long Reliever who has the splits control and pitches to be successful. He would have gone high if he had better stamina. As a college starter he is already very close to breaking into the show

1

46

$600K

Shooter Davidson

SP

18

HS

MILB

3.88

3 pitch soft tosser he will eat good amounts of innings and should be a consistant #3 or 4 guy for a good rotation for many seasons

2

74

$550K

Tomas Blanco

SP

22

COL

MILB

2.8

3 solid pitches but poor pitching splits will limit him to a minor league career. His bad stamina and durability mix further limits his value.

3

106

$425K

Andre Bradley

SP

21

COL

MILB

2.9

4 plus pitches and great stamina will give him his opportunities, but his below average control and mediocre splits will keep him in the minors for most if not all his career

4

139

$350K

Marc Wagner

RP

19

JC

MILB

3.2

1 great pitch and 3 additional average ones should be enough to get this above average pitcher to the Majors for a while. He is a great value in the 4th round and has league potential

5

171

$250K

Pedro Gonzalez

RP

21

COL

MILB

2.88

Solid 2 pitch reliever with below average splits. He might slip into the league as an emergency injury relief, but don't look for him to keep a job long
