SUMMARY

1

37

Joel Daly

RP

18

HS

MILB

$840K

3 pitch relievers have a lot of success they are the ace in the hole for many teams, Daly will be no exception.

1

54

Lew Stewart

RP

18

HS

MILB

$600K

3 pitch reliever with poor durability, his lack of durability mixed with low stamina will limit his value.

2

92

Sid Hudler

RP

18

HS

MILB

$550K

Poor control on a reliever is never a good thing.

3

124

Destin Hogg

RP

18

HS

MILB

$425K

Great prospect if he had more durability to go with his low stamina. He might pitch 30 innings a season. That's a big might

4

157

Tom Radmanovich

SP

22

COL

MILB

$350K

If he find control somewhere and he might get in the majors as a bottom of the rotation starter

5

189

Clayton Inge

SP

20

JC

MILB

$250K

Not sure where the ball ends up after each pitch, but with his velocity you hope it's not on the side of your head.

Summary: Daly was one of my favorite relievers in the draft and he is a great value at pick 37. This was pitching heavy draft that should give Wichita options in the bullpen, but most will need a careful eye to make it anywhere near their projections.

SUMMARY

1

17

Quinn Hollins

SP

19

JC

MILB

$2,500K

The only thing keeping him out of the top 5 was his lack of great stamina; otherwise you get a pitcher with pus splits 4 solid pitches and good control. Could be a great closer or long reliever.

1

22

Johnny McGehee

SP

22

COL

MILB

$2,040K

2 out of 4 pitches are worth a damn, add in good control and solid splits and you get this consistent starter. Good 1st round pick who doesn't need much to get out of the minors.

1

49

Edge Ferrara

P

18

HS

MILB

$600K

average control and 4 great pitches meet a below average stamina, he might not make a great starter but could pitch well in the ML as a reliever

1

57

Arthur Tenbrink

SP

18

HS

MILB

$600K

His control might never make it to a place where he would make a good major league starter.

3

107

Bill Coghlan

SS

22

COL

---

---

no power and an average bat and tool set, he is not going to make a impact in the league, but might be a good injury fill in or a cheap bench guy

4

140

Kevin Flynn

LF

20

JC

---

---

all speed and nothing else

5

172

Andy Lewis

SS

21

COL

---

---

3b at best in the field no splits will that dream very difficult.

Summary: 3 solid pitching prospects are always nice, hollins would fit well in a tandem rotation se but he would also make a killer reliever for someone. All around this was a pretty successful draft for Las Vegas.

SUMMARY

3

112

Carl Rupe

RP

19

JC

MILB

$425K

Late 3rd rounder solid bullpen guy who has already developed pretty. He could exceed projections and be well worth his draft status well

4

145

Benito Paz

RP

21

COL

MILB

$350K

has the ML chops to be a bullpen staple, but lacks the durability to make that dream a reality

5

177

Felipe Nunez

3B

18

HS

NOT SCOUTED

Summary: Lacking a pick until round 3 makes the draft difficult to manage. The McCoy's did well and made the best with 2 good relievers. These bullpen guys should come in handy

SUMMARY

1

8

David Tejada

CF

19

JC

MILB

$3,350K

Above average hitter with lightning speed. Matches better in the field at 2B than CF, but should be solid in the Majors one day.

2

66

Len Crawford

CF

21

COL

MILB

$550K

great defense but average hitter, not going to win many awards at the plate

3

98

Jeromy Sele

SS

18

HS

MILB

$425K

On first look you think you are getting a great defensive guy who really can't hit righties then you notice is makeup.

4

131

Jeffrey Wheeler

SS

18

HS

MILB

$350K

below average hitter and runner, but is an ace in the field, Defensive career has some value

5

163

Darrel Christenson

SP

19

JC

MILB

$250K

AA or bust

Summary: A few solid picks and this team should be turning the corner. Looks like they have done that here with their picks. All add value be it defensive or on the base path. They would like to have added a big bopper, but should be fine with what they did add.

SUMMARY

1

35

Stu Taylor

CF

18

HS

MILB

$920K

Defense and speed mix in a good contact hitter and you would have a star, except he can't hit a lick against left handers. Platoon superstar.

1

52

Glen Powell

3B

20

JC

MILB

$600K

Nothing spectacular, he is average in almost every way, he is the great 4A guy to fill a hole and keep a lineup warm.

2

90

Eddie Wilson

SS

22

COL

MILB

$550K

king of average not going to contribute in any ML manner

3

$425K

Power swing then nothing

4

155

Steven Sweeney

RF

21

COL

MILB

$350K

Average guy with minor league skills and major league ambition.

5

187

Shawn Garcia

2B

20

JC

MILB

$250K

defense and he can bunt, but still lacks good base running which negates his speed

Summary: the team is still stocked in the minors so finding a weakness can be tough, but the pitching is starting to get older and there is a gap in skills that is developing although a small one. This draft does not demonstrate the Burros superior eye for talent. Taylor is a platoon at best, but has value. But the rest of the draft must have been a disappointment for the mighty Burros.

SUMMARY

1

5

Shaggy Inglett

SS

20

JC

MILB

$3,630K

Better at 3rd base than short, he has the speed ML teams like. Mix his skills with his great contact and good splits. Not to far off from projections and should look great in 3 or 4 seasons.

1

45

Dave Nicholson

2B

20

JC

MILB

$600K

Average hitter with plus speed and some power, he lacks a true position and runs the bases pretty poorly.

1

55

Everett Ryal

C

18

HS

---

---

sign ability issues and a lack of a position dropped Ryal to this spot, he has the offensive tools if he does sign

1

58

Marcus Tucker

P

22

COL

MILB

$600K

Weakness against right hander will slow his decent into the ML ranks; he has 2 pitches good control and can pitch strong against left handers.

long reliever with below average splits might get in as a mop up guy for a few innings in the future

5

161

Freddy Ford

CF

22

COL

solid cf and good runner, but lacks any form of bat

Summary: 5 1st round picks and they need them all to recuperate their minor leagues. The Steelmakers have a look of work ahead of them. Inglett is a great hitter, but without power he is the type that many teams give lower value to and have great career starts then fizzle out when they try to get paid.

SUMMARY

1

9

Bobby McClain

2B

18

HS

Sign ability issues allowed McClain to slide to the 9th pick; Great all around hitter with plus speed, Poor base running and average power are his only real knocks.

1

33

Brett Basic

2B

18

HS

MILB

$1,000K

Solid, but lacks the power punch most teams seek in a guy with average speed. A poor makeup will also impede his chances.

1

3

99

Roger Kennedy

RP

21

COL

MILB

$425K

I see a future rule 5 guy here. He's not good enough to be on a 40 man roster but he might be to good to pass if available on the rule 5.

4

132

Socks Mullens

RP

22

COL

MILB

Left hand specialist with poor durability. He s not a bad prospect otherwise

5

164

Alvin Jarvis

SS

21

COL

MILB

$250K

solid defender, but no bat or wheels or anything else to get him a major league shot

Summary: 5 1st rounders but the draft hinges on signing McClain who has the hitting the team needs out of its 2B. bacsik is an interesting pick but not sure if I like him in the first round. Overall the team did fill out their minor ranks nicely it will be interesting to see who develops and makes an impact

SUMMARY

1

10

Theo Cooper

SP

18

HS

---

---

Should sign, he has ace quality pitches and splits, but he lacks the stamina to go deep in games as a starter, a strong career as a tandem starter or a long reliever or a converted closer might extent his value to all-star.

1

47

John Maybin

2B

18

HS

MILB

$600K

He fast and has good contact, other than that he might not offer a team much. Poor splits and no power.

2

68

Damian Pettyjohn

RF

21

COL

MILB

$550K

Right hand hitting platoon with good power. He is not going to be featured anywhere but he might sneak a few at bats

3

100

Matthew Williams Jr.

SS

21

COL

MILB

$425K

might b able to slide him to 3rd and be able to get a defensive advantage but why, he isn't leaving the minors

4

133

Phil Kida

CF

20

JC

MILB

$350K

average hitter above average speed, not much to dream about

5

165

Ezdra Brogna

C

20

JC

MILB

$250K

average hitter with no position, he might even be a danger at 1B for a long haul

Summary: Atlanta has a lot of holes to fill, so anyone would help them, but getting an Ace in the first round is a great start to the draft. What to do with said ace is what will decide what happens to Atlanta in the future

Grade: C+
