Summary

1

32

Sergei Hunter

RP

19

JC

MILB

$1,100K

Solid Long Reliever, He has 3 above average pitches and good control, but he is not going to intimidate many with his low velocity. This is probably the biggest reach I have seen NY ever take.

2

78

Stan Benoit

SP

20

JC

MILB

$550K

Solid starting pitcher with no-hum splits. He is not in the range to be a starter in New York's dominant system, but for someone else he might get a few starts at the bottom of a rotation.

3

110

Bernie Astacio

SP

18

HS

---

---

4A type pitcher, He will get a shot, but will never stick in the Pros. He does have 4 above average pitches and awesome control as a plus.

4

142

Tito Watson

LF

18

HS

MILB

$350K

Better suited for 1B, Watson is an all power hitter but with high strikeouts and poor contact, he is not going to merit much interest.

5

174

Bruce Taylor

2B

22

COL

MILB

$250K

Defensively weak at 2B, but could be serviceable in the OF. He's not a barnburner on offense, but he is slightly above average. He will probably burn out at AAA somewhere.

Summary: Hunter was a huge reach for NY and most likely does not really fill the kind of Bullpen help they needed. The rest of the draft seem to just fill up the minor league ranks, not much in the line of ML talent this season

SUMMARY

3

106

Steven Parker

SP

19

JC

MILB

$425K

Poor control allowed Parker to fall to the 3rd round. His good velocity and solid splits make him a quality pick here. If an owner is tolerant to a lot of walks Parker might have a great career.

4

138

Heinie Fielder

SP

22

COL

MILB

$350K

Fielder is another version of parker. Low low control, but great splits.

5

170

Scott Perez

RP

22

COL

MILB

$250K

Career Minor Leaguer

SUMMARY: Again made all the offseason moves to limit their picks, but they still scored 2 solid pitchers. They badly need to address their outfield situation for the future and the Hole at 3B is getting bigger and bigger.

SUMMARY

1

19

Carson Sauer

CF

19

JC

MILB

$2,320K

Speedy leadoff hitter who will own left handed pitching, he features some power and a slightly above average bat. Defensively he is a bit weak for CF, but might thrive in the corners.

2

65

Cyrus Siddall

RP

20

JC

MILB

$550K

Fireball Knucklers are an interesting commodity, add in the fact he is a short reliever and Siddall is even more interesting. This guy can pitch. 2 great pitches match superb splits and great control.

3

97

Craig Durham

2B

18

HS

---

---

All speed no pop hitter, whose future is more likely in the OF than at 2B. He will struggle at times with ML Pitching and will strikeout a lot more than most will be comfortable with.

4

129

Izzy Bradford

SP

18

HS

MILB

$350K

Solid pitcher who will struggle against left handed hitting, but overall is a fine pick up in the 4th round. He has above average right hand splits and 3 solid pitches.

5

161

Ned Sellers

RF

22

COL

MILB

$250K

Weak hitting with below average splits, Sellers will not make it much past AA

SUMMARY: Addressed most of their needs in Sauer and Siddall, so they can't complain too much. They probably need at least on quality starter which they did not get.

GRADE: C+

SUMMARY

1

2

Trent Boone

P

18

HS

MILB

$3,910K

Solid 4 pitch starter. Trent has excellent velocity great splits and good stamina. What he lacks is above average control. The Good Rev might have reached here.

2

48

Javy Arias

P

21

COL

---

---

Thinking about another year at college. Arias have all the makings to be a great starting pitcher except he is only slightly above average in his right/left splits.

3

80

Ringo Matthews

P

22

COL

---

---

Slide to the 3rd round because of his desire to play basketball. He's got 2 solid pitches and good control and splits, but is seeking over 3M to sign.

4

112

Randy Leary

P

20

JC

MILB

$350K

Career Minor Leaguer with 3 plus pitches, but horrible splits and mediocre control.

5

144

Tom Hamilton

SS

22

COL

MILB

$250K

He's not leaving the minors and more importantly he's not playing Short.

Summary: Needed position players and went after pitching. Although pitching needs help in Rochester as well. They only really pulled in 1 sure thing in Boone and a whole lot of question marks after him. They need a SS and Catcher as the farm is barren when it comes to those positions.
