AL EAST DRAFT REVIEW

Boston Badasses

Needs from the draft: 1: SP 2: RP 3: 3B

1

28

Hank Brow

P

21

2 pitch starter with average to below average splits. His plus control will not save him from the homers he will give up in his career. He needs to hope for a 3rd pitch to some now develop

2

71

Mike Jenkins

CF

18

Speedy hitter who runs well and hits effectively, but his struggle at times with his poor left/right splits. He still fields average for a CF and might find a happier home at 2B.

3

103

Les Mayne

P

18

2 plus s pitch reliever. He has the ability to recover quickly which will come in handy for the long innings he might get himself into. His pitching will struggle against left and right handers alike.

4

135

Goose Brantley

P

19

1 strong pitch and 1 average pitch compliment a lack of control and power. Lacks potential to make the pros for a long time.

5

167

Robin Henley

P

18

Power control and bad splits Robin does not below in the league. His 6 million dollar demands should keep it that way

Summary:

Badasses needed pitching and that. Is what they drafted, but none of the pitchers really project to make it out of the minors or project to stay out for long , This was a poor draft for the Badasses organization.

Grade: D+

Durham Bulls

Needs from the draft: 1: CF 2: 2B 3: C

1

7

Shayne Owen

RF

18

---

Solid hitter with blazing speed and the ability to steal at will. He is weak defensively but his bat more than makes up for his shortcomings. He might not sign as he might still go to college

2

50

Javier Julio

RP

20

---

Projectable closer with 2 dominant pitches and good control. He will be tough on righties and could be a shutdown closer in a few years

3

82

Rudy Waterson

SP

22

$425K

Good control but lacks both the pitches and the splits to be truly effective. Projects to eat many minor league innings with his good stamina and control though

4

114

Micah Sanders

SP

20

$350K

Another pitcher like waterson, who will eat many a minor league innings but never make a big league roster.

5

146

Louie Fox

RP

19

$250K

Projects to be a fringe big league reliever with below average splits and 2 average pitches

Summary:

never even looked at key gaps in the minor league system. They did draft a star in Owens, who should sign but probably not until later this season. Julio also should make an impact. After that the draft went dry for Durham.

Grade: C+

Iowa City Eye Sores

Needs from the draft: 1: RP 2: SP 3: CF

1

3

Stephen Dreifort

CF

18

$3,820K

Average center fielder with plus power and excellent splits. He should also steal a few bases in his career. Might have been a reach at the 3rd overall pick.

2

46

Dale Taylor

P

18

---

4 good pitches with plus control and good stamina make him a great 2nd rounder. His signability issues is the reason he fell here. If Iowa can sign him he is a great pick

3

78

Nicholas Fick

2B

22

$425K

Below average batting eye but still a good hitter with plus contact and fielding. He should make a major league impact at least as a defensive replacement

4

110

Donne Clark

2B

18

$350K

Slap hitting speeder with good base running he makes a good pinch runner or a leadoff hitter. He has poor batting eye so he will strikeout more than his share, but he will also make a pro roster some where

5

142

Norm Standridge

P

19

$250K

No control and poor splits make him an inning eater at best. Poor 5th rounder who needs to be a DITR to be effective.

Summary:

4 players with major league potential are good for any draft. They reached for a Center fielder in the 1st round which is fine; they need to sign Taylor to complete this draft. They did not get a needed relief pitcher, but made an attempt to cover their needs

Grade: B (c- if they don't sign Taylor)

Washington D.C. old school warriors:

Needs from the draft: 1: RP 2: SP 3: 1B

1

9

Wilson MacRae

RP

18

---

Top flight relief pitcher with 2 plus pitches and good stamina and control. He will strike out many batters when he gets to the show, but he is a major question mark about signing

2

52

Kennie Ramirez

SS

19

$550K

Defensively better suited for 3B. He would be a weak SS, he has no power but can hit for contact he is weak against righties. He was probably a reach in the 2nd round

3

84

Quinn Franklin

P

19

$425K

2 pitched starters like this have limited success in Ryan. Add in the fact he has average splits and Franklin is a bottom of the rotation long reliever at best

4

116

Nerio Canizaro

LF

22

$350K

No power speedster with excellent base running skills. he might not be a good every day starter but might be useful on the bench

5

148

Charles McEnroe

CF

21

---

NO INFO

Summary:

Relief pitching was definitely addressed but he might never sign and that would destroy this decent draft. They needed at least 1 batter who can over some pop they did not get it this year

Grade: C-(D- if they don't sign MacRae)
