Colorado Springs Organizational Filler
Needs from the draft: CF, 1B, SP
SUMMARY | ||||||||
1 | 18 | 2B | 18 | HS | --- | --- | Listed as a 2B, but projects with defensive ratings a little low to play there (74 range, 70 glove, 48 throw power, 63 throw accuracy). Very good offensive ratings. No real other red flags (health, durability, etc.). Very good pick at 18, though. He'll be a 40+ HR, 900+ OPS guy in the majors someday.
1 | 46 | RP | 21 | COL | MILB | $600K | Solid Reliever with 2 very good pitches. Potvin has superb control, but has average velocity and fly/ground. This might keep him out of a closer role, but shouldn't stop him from a MLB career.
2 | 64 | SP | 22 | COL | MILB | $550K | Projects to be a bottom of the rotation type on middle of the road team. He is not going to light many fires, but he will have his good days along with his bad. Solid control and 3 plus pitches.
3 | 96 | SP | 22 | COL | MILB | $425K | I Like
4 | 128 | SS | 18 | HS | --- | --- | Solid shortstop that has some bat to go with good fielding. He could break ML camp someday if he signs and hits his projects might not be a risk worth taking for over a 3M signing bonus.
5 | 160 | SP | 22 | COL | MILB | $250K | DITR on his splits and he becomes a ML starter, right now he's junk. |
Summary: Last Season's #1 did not sign, and that hurt a little. Again they went into this draft looking for the same things as last season. A solid fielding and hitting bat for 1B, a starting option at CF and more pitching upgrades. Tucker Should is a fine addition to the middle of the Fillers lineup and offers the offense they need for the future. CSP did also get the Starting pitchers they were looking for, but ignored their need for a solid glove patrolling the center field.

Needs from the draft: CF, RP, 2B
SUMMARY | ||||||||
1 | 26 | RF | 22 | COL | MILB | $1,660K | Solid bottom of the lineup hitter. HE will contribute soon as a few short seasons in the minors and he can compete at an everyday level in the MLB. His speed and base running will be an asset to this team.
1 | 41 | RP | 22 | COL | MILB | $680K | Plucked out of the college ranks to be elite closer. Trammell should be able to baffle hitters with his fastball and be able to setup his curveball. He would be the primer closer if he induced more groundballs, but he is a prize late in the 1st.
2 | 72 | RP | 19 | JC | MILB | $550K | Another quality reliever he has 2 solid pitches and good control, but lacks decent velocity and has mediocre left/right splits.
3 | 104 | SS | 18 | HS | MILB | $425K | Better suited for 3B, Verdugo has good speed, but does not feel or see the ball well enough at this point to be considered above a 4A type.
4 | 136 | SS | 20 | JC | MILB | $350K | Purely a defensive replacement at the major league level. He does not project to be any type of hitter above AA.
5 | 168 | RP | 20 | JC | MILB | $250K | Career Minor Leaguer |
Summary: Picked up solid relief help in Trammell and Singleton. They should be able to contribute immediately and bolster an aging declining bullpen. Barkley should be a usable piece to any lineup, but he's not nesisarially a component that San Diego needed. He might be moved for a CF which is becoming a desperate need for the Surf.
Grade: C+
Needs from the draft: 3B, RP, C
Summary | ||||||||
1 | 20 | 2B | 18 | HS | --- | --- | Very solid offensive type 2B. He projects pretty similarly to someone like Joe Norton . Solid Late rounder who might be better served in the outfield, but all around should have a good career...
2 | 66 | RP | 22 | COL | MILB | $550K | Solid 2 pitch reliever who will struggle against ML Right Handers, but has an amazing curve that should freeze the left handers. A major drawback is Dale is 22 and needs a lot of improvement to make projections. With middle range Makeup that might never happen.
3 | 98 | 3B | 18 | HS | MILB | $425K | Above average speed and strength give Forrester a strong chance to make the Pros someday. He is defensively suited for RF/LF expects a lower average with a good number of dingers.
4 | 130 | 3B | 18 | HS | --- | --- | Branch is a poor man's Forrester, all the same skills minus the ability to run and the ability to hit ML level pitching consistently.
5 | 162 | C | 21 | COL | MILB | $250K | Solid catcher with good lay calling he will not throw out many and probably will not offer a whole lot of offense at the plate. |
Summary: Forrester and Glanville cover 2 huge holes, if they ever make their projections. This is a huge if in both cases.
Stokes is a good 1st round find, but might not fit the Marmots needs. He could be good trade bait for another team.

SUMMARY | ||||||||
1 | 1 | 2B | 18 | HS | --- | --- | The only Drawback with Martin is his desire to play college ball. He is an absolute stud. He can hit for power, run with speed effectively, he fields his position well and has great makeup. He just needs to sign
2 | 47 | P | 19 | JC | MILB | $550K | 5 pitches, with 4 above average match well with fireball velocity, he will struggle with both his control and his ability to constantly get guys at the major league level out with his average splits.
3 | 79 | CF | 21 | COL | --- | --- | NOT SCOUTED
4 | 111 | P | 19 | JC | --- | --- | NOT SCOUTED
5 | 143 | P | 18 | HS | MILB | $250K | A sub 20 control spells WILD THING. If he can improve 30 points in control he might make the pros one day.
Summary: The Colorado draft hinges on Martin signing, He should, but he is going to make the Mile High sweat. He is the next Matt Shave, but even better. The people in Colorado are now saying Vic Who? Other than that Colorado really got no value McDonald is a borderline ML'er and the rest my scouts spent no time worrying about so neither will I.
